#FraudOff! anti-fraud campaign launching its third season 23/04/2019
The opening event for the third season of the #FraudOff! anti-fraud movement is planned for Wednesday, 24 April, with a press conference and a discussion. The goal of this social information campaign is to expand knowledge of fraudulent activities, illegal business and other practices among the general public, also drawing attention to the negative consequences that such phenomena have on the prosperity of the country as a whole and every individual in particular.
This year’s campaign focus is the duty to report any cases of fraudulent actions or suspicions thereof to competent authorities. The public are urged not only to support honesty, but also to protect others from becoming victims of fraud.
During the opening event, the #Fraud off! movement will report on the results of the most recent study and other news, with guest speakers from the Ministry of Finance, State Police, Prosecutor General Office and others. Meanwhile, a discussion about the importance of reporting fraud in today’s Latvia will include opinions by a social anthropologist, a scientist, a TV producer, and representatives of the State Revenue Service, Food and Veterinary Service, State Chancellery and other state administrative bodies.
The press conference will begin at 12:00, at the People Work co-working space (Birznieka-Upīša iela 21, Riga). The discussion will start at 13:00.
Members of the movement include organisations that care about honesty and fairness, and are prepared to fight for these values, involving all of the people of Latvia in this process. This initiative of Latvia’s law-enforcement organisations to cooperate in fighting fraud and educating the public about it is taking place for the third year in a row. Its members are now more than 70 in number, including state institutions, non-government organisations and private companies.
